The Supra is really a GT car, not a sports car. That’s what the Celica and MR2 were for. So the auto actually works with the theme.

Definitely one of Toyota’s low points, but at least the steam engine can be replaced with something reliable. The auto trans is also at least 100x more reliable than the R154 5-speed that had all sorts issues.

Why replace the engine? Swap in a decent gasket and some ARP head bolts. Toque to 75 ft-lbs. Done.

I went through that like 12 years ago, been there. Oil pump sucks, rod knock almost guaranteed, and the hg is only maybe cured if you deck the head and block, otherwise metal gasket and arp’s is a waste of time. I’ve had 4 7m’s and still kept all the metal and regular blown gaskets on the wall of my garage :)

So my Supra has an auto. Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?
